Create an Echo
Step-by-step guide to creating your first Echo on EchoPastel
This guide explains how to create an Echo, which is a feedback project associated with a website.
What is an Echo?
An Echo is a feedback project for a specific website. Each Echo allows you to:
- Annotate any element of the page
- Share the project with collaborators
- Track all discussions and replies
- Manage access permissions
Creation process
Step 1: Access Echo creation
From your dashboard, you can create a new Echo in several ways:
- Click on the "New Website" or "Create an Echo" button
- Use the keyboard shortcut if available
- Access the creation page directly from the menu
Step 2: Add a website
In the creation form, you need to enter your website's domain:

Click on "Go" or press Enter
Step 3: Website verification
EchoPastel will now:

Verify website accessibility
- The system checks that the site is accessible
- If the site is not accessible, an error will be displayed

Load a screenshot
- A screenshot of the homepage is automatically generated
- This screenshot will be used as a preview of your Echo

Upload the screenshot
- The screenshot is uploaded to our servers
- This may take a few seconds
Step 4: Echo creation
Once verification is complete:
- The Echo is automatically created
- You are redirected to the annotation page
- You can start placing annotations!
Error handling
Website not accessible
If the website is not accessible, you'll see the error: "Website is not reachable".
Possible solutions:
- Check that the site is online
- Verify that you entered the correct domain name
- Make sure the site is not protected by a firewall
Timeout
If verification takes too long, you'll see: "Website check timed out".
Possible solutions:
- Try again in a few moments
- Check your internet connection
- The site may be temporarily overloaded
Echo already exists
If an Echo with this URL already exists, you'll see: "Echo with this URL already exists".
Possible solutions:
- Use the existing Echo
- Archive the old Echo if necessary
- Contact the owner of the existing Echo
Basic configuration
Once your Echo is created, you can:
Modify settings
- Access Echo settings
- Change the name if necessary
- Configure access permissions
Share the Echo
- Share by email with collaborators
- Generate a public link
- Configure sharing permissions
Limits by plan
The number of Echos you can create depends on your plan:
- Free plan: 2 active Echos
- Pro plan: Unlimited Echos
- Lifetime plan: Unlimited Echos
- Enterprise plan: Unlimited Echos
Tip: You can archive Echos to free up space on the free plan. Archived Echos remain accessible but no longer count toward your limit.
